Sorry, I haven’t write to you in this past two months. I’m afraid I don’t have interesting story to share. I have been very bored the last three days. I don’t know what to do- I have creative block, my brain utterly bare and I can’t think. This is my first summer without you and Goggi. Last week Goggi went to Bali with his workmate, unfortunately I can’t join with them because I’m not feeling well.
This summer was very tedious without you and Goggi. Luckily last week I get an invitation to join with a fellow bloggers from Indonesian Foodblogger to taste Excelso summer beverages. What make it more interesting, Excelso also make a decorating competition. This even held at Excelso branch at Kota Kasablanka.
The event started with Hanny A.Elvind, Marketing Communications Manager from Excelso explaining about company philosophy and how Excelso was founded. From her I learned that The first Excelso Cafe was opened in September 1991 in Jakarta and it was a part of Kapal Api Group. Talking about Kopi Kapal Api it always bring back an old memory, I remember one bleak afternoon in September after begging for almost an hour, finally your mom make a cup of kopi kapal api with condensed milk for us.We drink it happily at that time because we got a chance to try an adult drink. That my first coffee experience and I will never forget that.
After the introduction we got a chance to try Excelso Summer Beverages. For this summer holiday Excelso have 5 variant of drinks and it was take from their regular menu, this beverages made from fruits combination and 2 of them combine fruits with coffee. Maharani (combination of banana with fruit juices like pineapple and orange and coffee), Banana Split Freeze (blended banana with chocolate syrup and strawberry sauce and topped with whipping cream), and Summer Splash Freeze are cold drink made from frozen mixed berries. All summer drinks are priced IDR 41.500
Crispy cass (IDR 27.500) made from tapai (fermented cassava) and wrapped with crispy spring roll skin and served with a generous amount of chocolate shaving, grated cheese and a drizzle of condensed milk. At first I was hesitant to try this snack (you know I’m a tapai-hater) but I try it anyway. After try one bite, it turns out I like this snacks. Not just like, I think I’m in love at first bite. The tapai smells and taste not too strong like usual, it was creamy and sweet with crunchy exterior from spring roll skin. Beside from Tapai, you also get the sweetness from chocolate and condensed milk, and finally a slightly salty from cheese give out the right balance for this snack.
Banana Split Frappio (IDR 41.500) this drink made from chilled coffee blended with banana and chocolate syrup, served with whipped cream, chopped hazelnut and cherry on top. What I can say about this drink…banana, coffee and chocolate its a mood booster-I call this a glass of happiness. The banana flavour taste a bit mellow, coffee and chocolate syrup feel more dominating.
Maui Fruit Punch (IDR 41.500) a very fruity drink made from blended banana, pineapple, cherry and lychee with a chunk of fruits. This drink taste ok but banana overpowering the taste, I think they need to add more pineapple juice to make it more fresh. What I like from this drink they give a generous amount of fruit chunks, like pineapple and lychee. We also got a club sandwich and fries to accompanied this drink. This sandwich come in a big portion two stack of bread filled with grilled chicken, smoked beef, sliced hard boiled egg, and fresh lettuce.
Excelso also have a promotion, from June 3rd until 31st July for minimum purchase IDR 100.000 in one bill for drink only, you will get a free Melba or Blossom Freeze .
